Position: Intermediate/Senior Electrical Designer #100270 – 1 Full Time Position
Reports to: Director of Hardware Engineering and Embedded Development
Location: 60 Northland Drive, Suite 6&7, Waterloo

Metris’s Integration Services and Technology (IS&T) Division has its head office in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. IS&T is a project orientated team responsible for delivering integrated systems primarily serving a top tier Aerospace customer base.
Opportunity:
This position is part of a team responsible to assist internal customers in the design of board-level systems. The fundamental signal processing engine is based on a unified circuit architecture driven by an integrated Blackfin processor. The secondary responsibility will be to work within the hardware team to continue evolving and maturing the underlying product at a component level.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design electronics that meet internal requirements, using good engineering practices
- Define interfaces between electronics components
- Analyze and determine effects such as EMI, power distribution
- Maintain formal requirements documents and support internal customer report-outs
- Be part of the hardware effort to expand formal methodologies and best practices
- Develop formal acceptance testing procedures
- Provide written and verbal status reports
- Job responsibilities will vary depending on project and skill set
Skills and Qualifications:
- Familiarity with optical, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Experience with mixed signals design and signal integrity
- Experience with EMC/ RFI, 16/32-bit processors from Analog Devices
- Familiarity with embedded 802.11 a/b/g radio modules
- Simulation, synthesis and analysis using an oscilloscope and digital multi-meter
- Experience with Altera and/ or equivalent FPGA logic design tools
- Experience with Altium and/ or equivalent PCB design tools
- Experience with AutoCad Electrical
- Experience with Linux OS
- Strong understanding of computer hardware/software and networking capabilities
- Self-motivated and able to work independently while constructively contributing to the team
- Demonstrated team and/or project leadership capabilities
- 5 to 10 years of industrial experience
- Knowledge of Windows OS
Education:
A degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or similar program or equivalent experience.
